Im 6'2 and 260 on a good day, Looking for a bike. Im considering the Trek Madone 5.2, or the Kona King Zing. What I dont want to happen is I spend a ton of money (Although Im willing to :) and then the 15 pound bike falls apart. Looking to put some serious mileage on it.

  1. Go for a *High Quality* steel frame with Reynolds 853 for example.

A trek madone is designed for athletes basically. These guys don't weigh 260lbs. Hence the wheels won't be up to the job.

Look for some strong 32 to 36 spoked wheels.

  2. i've seen much bigger on less.  you won't have a problem.  go to a bike shop and get measured and fitted for a bike.  do not buy one on your own.  they will guarentee that the bike will not fall apart.
