Texas requires good citizenship for homeschoolers... What exactly would this be? Could attended bible classes on Sundays count? Should he volunteer a couple of days a week?

  1. Volunteering would be better. Although I'd vote for bible classes...I think the state would rather see volunteering or tutoring of some kind.

    Best of Luck to you

  2. From the link below:

    6.    What is "a study of good citizenship"?

"Good citizenship" is usually taken to mean civics. Public schools teach one semester of civics, usually in the senior year of high school. Teaching U.S. and Texas history, government (theoretical and practical), the pledge of allegiance, and similar activities will also help meet this requirement.

That is the requirement.  Volunteerism is a good idea simply because kids benefit greatly from helping others, whether those kids are schooled or not.

    All the best.

  3. I think Bible classes would count more for religion--going to church isn't about being a good citizen.

You have free reign on this one. What does it mean to have good citizenship? What do your local schools do? Surely the kids don't volunteer a couple of days a week. You can do that, but you don't need to. Even just talking about what makes one a good citizen--taking care of your property, helping other people out, voting, etc.--would be enough.

  4. Studying the Bible is absolutely an acceptable good citizenship course!  Volunteering on top of that will not only enrich the course but give you something to put on your high school transcripts.
