I'm a junior in high school and I've started through the college search process. One thing i would love my school to have is a good rugby team. I've been playing for a long time so i would like to go to a school with a good team. I dont think i could make it into any of the D1 schools like Harvard or UC Berkeley . If you have any ideas for schools in my gpa range which is like 3.5 please drop them by...

  1. LSU is a good, not great school, with an above average rugby team that has been ranked in the top 25 by goffonrugby.com and americanrugbynews.com.  It is a really fun school with a great football team, and close proximity to New Orleans.

What do you plan on studying?  That can help your college search process.

  2. Try going to D1 schools websites and looking at their athletic information, they can usually give you a pretty good idea of what their teams are like. they also give you the all important win-loss record.

  3. Believe it or not. The united states military academy has made it to the sweet 16 every time. and to the final four a bunch too.

  4. Look into goffonrugby.com and americanrugbynews.com both have top 25 lists for colleges.  Many of the larger state schools (Ohio State, Penn State, etc.) have good rugby programs, but another thing to consider is to look into larger cities that have a Super league team.  Many times this is where you will find the best coaching, as well as several different levels of sides where you will see playing time as you improve your game.  It won't be exclusively college guys, but you may learn more and get more exposure is you're good going this route.  Just another thing to consider...the Super League's website is premier-rugby.com

  5. School websites won't help since very few schools have rugby as a recognized sport.  Check out goffonrugby.com he does a top 25 and you could even email him to find out some good schools near you.

  6. The University of Wisconsin-Stout. D2 team, you could easily get in with a 3.5. 1st place in Wisconsin last season (1st place 7 out of the last 8 years), and 2nd place in the whole Midwest. We are ranked 16th in the nation for D2 schools. It's a good school, easy to get into, small town atmosphere (but only 45 minutes from Minneapolis/St. Paul). Check it out
