Good english text for grammer school?

I wanted to know a good text for elementary children to learn from (grades second to seventh) reffering more than one text is fine. Does any one no the authors of an english text with a horse on the front cover?

uhm well in 5ht grade i read, The Lottery Rose, it does not have a horse on the cover, but it is an amazing story.
