  1. you could try a cob?

if you are 6ft, maybe 15.2+ would be good, try a sturdy breed, but does depend on what you want to do such as eventing, hacking whatever.

  2. it depends on your weight, and the horse's strength/size.

for ex. some ponies are very hearty and strong and can carry a full-grown man..... but you could have a really tall thoroughbred in poor condition not able to comfortable carry the same man.

  3. You would look fantastic on a horse that is 15.2 or 16 hands.

The breed should be your choice.

  4. well it really depends. i know a girl, 5' 5", 260 pounds who has her own pony and jumps etc. if you don't weigh much, you could pretty much ride any horse, although you might feel more comfortable on the taller ones. ask your instructor for farther details

  5. Hello,

Well, your weight should be considered!  I know a cowboy who is 6'2" that rides a Smart Little Lena (STOCKY built) mare, and she is only 14.3 hands tall...  He looks funny, but cutting bred horses are short so the can get down and turn on a dime.  He trail rides her, etc. and doesn't have ANY problems at all.

Just depends on your weight and the build of the horse and of course what you plan on doing.

  6. It's not as much your height as your weight.  A horse shouldn't carry more than about 10-15% of it's body weight.

With that said, although 6 ft sounds tall, it's not so tall as to cause challenges finding a tall enough horse.

The normal stock horse (QH, Appy, paint, etc) is about 1200 lbs and anywhere from 15 hands to 17 hands which should fit you very well.

You don't require a draft, but many people like them because their dispositions are usually quieter and they are more sure-footed - the wranglers that contract horses to dude ranches out west use horses with some portion draft blood in them now for these reasons.

Find the horse with the proper characteristics for your riding ability and I bet it will fit you physically.

  7. Well it depends mostly on your weight and riding ability.  But as long as you can control your upper body and your legs dont hang below the horse's sides, height shouldn't be much of an issues.

  8. well it just depends on what your trainer says...

  9. You can ride any of those horses and any horse that is 14 hands tall or larger. I am 5'11" and ride pain horses that range between 14.2 hands and 15.3 hands.

  10. depends on your training and the horse's training - and possibly your weight - and what you plan to do - trail ride - cross country jumping, polo? - just your height isn't enough(i guess you don't want your feet to drag) - when you go for a lesson ask the trainer.  I'm 5'4" and only a gentle animal will do - any size - some ponies  can be quite feisty and they know you are a novice.
