I going to go look at a 1990 cbr 600 and there asking $1300 for it. It has 48k on it and is missing the lower fairing. also the timing chain is making nosie at 2000 to 3000 rpm. is that a good deal or no?

  1. NO

  2. I'd be afraid to pay a lot for a used sportbike.  A CBR could have been owned by a testosterone-poisoned young squid who thrashed it unmercifully.  48k is not a lot for a Honda, if it's been ridden carefully and properly cared for, but it could be a lot for a sportbike that's been ridden hard and abused.

Also call up your local Honda dealer and ask them what it costs to replace a timing chain.  It might be $500 or more.  So you're paying $1800 (or so) for an 18 year old sportbike with missing body parts.  Seems to me like you could do better than that with a newer bike.

  3. ...agree with above.  The condition you describe is fair.

"Fair — Starts, runs, and rides OK but needs some work. Motorcycle shows signs of use but not abuse. Any previous restoration or mechanical work is older and not holding up well. Cosmetics, body, and mechanics all need work to some degree. This is a complete motorcycle with most sheet metal and body parts being correct but only in fair condition."

NADA guide values this bike...are you ready?...$300

This bike, in good condition (drive as is and only minor repair), is valued at $800.  This guy is asking way too much, pass on it.
