Question:

Good residential neighborhood in sydney?

I'm a college-age girl looking to stay in Sydney for much of this upcoming [American] summer. What's a fun--but SAFE--neighborhood for me to live in? (Ideally, I'd be renting an apt.)

I've heard King's Cross mentioned...that sounds nice in terms of good social life, but is it realistically safe for a single girl to live?

Thanks for your help!

  1. Bondi Beach is the best.good backpackers great people, safe loads to do and still close to the city.Stay away from Kings Cross. For a local its great but not someone who dosn,t know the turf.

  2. Kings Cross is redlight town (strip clubs, brothels etc), but a good, safe area is Bondi. There are nightclubs, the beach (duh) and good, mostly air-conditioned trains (takes 10mins) to the city.

  3. King's Cross is great - however bear in mind it is the red light district (so you will see some odd characters) but perfectly safe.  I'm from Potts Point which is one street away from Darlinghurst Street and I never ever have any problems.  Look at Elizabeth Bay, Rushcutter's Bay, Potts Point, Paddington, Darlinghurst and some places in Woolloomoolloo for excellent nightlife, safety and proximity to the city.  However, if you don't restrict yourself to the east of the city, Newtown is bohemian, Glebe and Balmain are good spots too.  For me personally, the east is where it's at.

  4. Stay away from Kings Cross.  Not safe at all.  Yes, red-light district.  Major drug scene, crime, etc...  Kings Cross you can buy a hit quicker than you can buy a milk shake...  Elizabeth Bay, Potts Point, both really nice, close to there, but exceedingly expensive.  Maybe you should try somewhere like Glebe, it is on the other side of the city, close to one of the many Universities.

  5. Forget Kings Cross, it's far to sleazy and for a traveling single lady, phew! I can aready see the headlines. Far to much violence and criminal activity.

I suggest Coogee. Lots of travelers, and happy locals. Not to far from all the city action, but also very laid back for 'lay on the beach' and take it all in type action. Good night life too, pubs, clubs etc.

  6. LoL - Dont do it ! Kings Cross !

    Some great places include:

    Erskineville

    Enmore

    Camperdown

    Newtown

    Alexandria

They are happening places and not far from the City and Uni.
