  1. At race pace, for a girl, breaking 20 minutes is pretty good.  Breaking 19 is amazing.  Breaking 18 is considered elite.  For guys, breaking 18 is okay.  Breaking 17 is great.  Breaking 16 is amazing.  Breaking 15 is considered elite.  22 minutes is a very good time for a 14 year-old.  The only thing I'd suggest is to find a balance in the number of speed days and recovery days you have and live healthily (eat right, get plenty of sleep, etc.).  Everything should fall into place if you train right.

  2. Yes, its good, but you must train harder to become a professional.

  3. It vastly depends on your age, but for all runners (ages 20-50) the 24 minutes is the golden average. If you run faster than that, you're a serious racer.

Note that this is the RACE time... Training times are usually much slower. If you're looking for a training time, 25-30 minutes is average.

EDIT: Pick up Jack Daniels' "Daniels' Running Formula" at your local library or buy it online.

This is a superb book for runners of all abilities. But if you're looking for a quick tip, try incorporating interval running into your workouts. For example, 5 minutes near-race pace, then 5 minute recovery run. Then repeat 3-5 times.

  4. Oh wow I'm 14 also.

My average time for a 5k is 16:20's

A good time would be keeping a pace of 5 minutes per mile

You should start running 10k's regularly. You don't

have to run then hard just run them regularly. Every now and then run 5k's very very hard. And keep the cycle going. Always eat well and drink well. You should be under 20 in a week or two. If you have any more questions just E-mail me.
