In the wake of St. Patricks Day I realized that I do not really have any good irish music. Now I don't want those cd you get from wal mart or those card stores, but can anyone recommend to me a good irish cd with traditional sound. I have been searching somewhat for a CD and see artists like the Dubliners, or Clancy Bros. Are they any good? Please recommend something for me. thanks

  1. There's this CD called Blásta, not really sure if it's still around but it's got a mix of jigs, reels, hornpipes aswell as ballads. It's got instrumental aswell as vocal too so it's a really good mix of trad music...but i'm sure if you get any compilation CD you'll find that!

  2. The Pogues !!

    Brillaint Cd !!

  3. the dubliners for sure... it doesnt come any more st.patricks than that!

  4. I don't know if they sell this cd in the u.s. but its called Jigs & Reels.  my mom and i bought it in the shannon airport when we were in ireland.  it is traditional irish music.

  5. Instrumental:

John Williams - Steam (warning - it's accordion)

    Anything by

    Kevin Crawford

    Paddy Keenan

    Paddy Glacken

    Lunasa

The Tea Merchants - a bit of funk mixed in there

    The Mulcahy Family

    w/ songs:

De Dannan - How the west was won

Solas, try Reunion - some of their CDs are far better than others - I'd go with Reunion or the self titles Solas

    Altan

    The Fuschia Band

    Cherish the Ladies

    The Chieftains

    Mary Black

    Dolores Keane

I can't remember if there are songs on these or not:

    Teada

    Flook

    Beoga

these are all new bands with exciting young players - like 25 yr olds - but they're fantastic!

Check out www.greenlinnet.com (I think) That's a great record label for Irish music

There's so much good Irish music out there - I'm glad you don't want to go to WalMart...good call!
