i need soemething to grade my drivway it is compact rock realy compact. I saw the dr power grader but that doesnt look like it will go deep enough to get down and clean out the pot holes. Just putting rocks in them doesnt help. I was thinking of getting something to pull with my atv or truck. I need to do something. Any ideas i might just make my oun but i dont know if their is something better.

  1. Take a beam like Diddley has to a welding shop and have them vertically weld short pieces of 1/2" rebar to one side, flush with the bottom and protruding up about 3 or 4 inches. Also have them weld a loop you can put a chain through on each end.

Take it home and pull it up and down the driveway with the "teeth" facing down so it loosens the gravel. Then when you are satified it is doing the job, flip it over and regrade the gravel.

Keep it! Maybe you can rent it out to someone to redo their lawn or whatever and get your investment back.

  2. I use a eight inch steal I beam about ten feet long. I have a chain welded at both ends so I can hook a log chain to it,then run it up threw the rack of four wheeler. this does not work well if gravel is real hard so I try to do this after a rain or I will weight it down with cement blocks and pull with tractor.

  3. Do it when it is soft.  Put a box blade with scarifying teeth on your tractor.  Use this to rough it up and take out the pot holes.  Then grade smooth.

  4. You don't think the DR power grader will work?  I do.

However, it is always best to try cheap.  Get a piece of chain link fence, attach it to a sturdy timber, and get some chain to run a triangle to a pull point.  Now, that won't do much, but if you weight it with something evenly heavy, it'll do some serious re-grading.  A pile of railroad ties comes to mind.  Some actual railroad rails would be better.
