Graduation party in front yard?

Question

We have a smallish house and a fenced-in pool in our backyard. Would it be tacky to have our son's h.s. graduation open house in the front yard? We live in a small town neighborhood, with houses on both sides and across the street. Any ideas on how to decorate, etc? Thanks.

This seems like a great idea.

To prepare this is a good chance to check if you need to freshen the paint and sharpen up the regular decor.

May need to be sure where the parking will be, and speak to the neighbors about the party.

You may want to have a party theme like wild west, luau, hollywood, or even based on the graduate themself.

Decorate with banners, lots of balloons and streamers, candles, lanterns and xmas tree lights.

Put up lots of photos of the graduate at various ages.

For a centrepiece you may have a large photo of the graduate and some of their personal items.

Have a sign in book for guests to leave messages for the graduate.

For the family this is a very comfortable environment and they will be relaxed.

Food can suit the theme. It could be BBQ, hot dogs, cold buffet, burgers, candy, ice cream, and a graduation cake.

For drink water and sodas are a good start.

I think that this is a great idea.. For decor. Inexpensive kids cowboy hats with a flowering potted plant like a daisy make great inexpensive centerpieces.

String white Christmas lights up in the trees and on the deck or even just lay them on the ground at the edge of the yard. They make it look festive.

For tablecloths. White, red or navy queen size sheets make great tablecloths for round tables. Walmart has very inexpensive queen sheets like this for under $8.88 each. I cut them into a circle and hemmed the edges but you wouldn't have to. For some color. Buy bandannas to use as a table topper under the cowboy hat. They come in all different patterns and colors. For guys. Navy cloths with red bandannas and then red geraniums would  be great. For girls white cloths with hot pink bandannas and daisies would be really cute. For the invitation make color postcard invitations on a color copier. Print our 4 copies of the invitation that are 3" x 4 1/2" place them face down on the scanner screen or xerox screen and then place a pink or colored bandanna over that and make your copies. This will give you 4 per page and the bandanna becomes the 1/2" border around each invitation. It is really cute and inexpensive!
