Grappling and striking

A guy who i train grappling with started to add some striking to his arsenal. The first think he noticed was how a lot of grappling techniques which he can do when not striking cant be pulled of without getting hit when striking is allowed. Has anyone experienced the same problem, becuase personally i have not.

  1. If you're only training in one of the two and you plan on entering into a contest using both, the odds are against you. If you plan on getting into a real fight training in only one, the odds are HEAVILY against you.

You can't be a truly great fighter if your not well rounded. New UFC isn't very good but old UFC show cases what Im speaking of. Gracie won because no one trained in grappling. Once the strikers learned grappling he was not a dominating force any longer. I've also seen many grapplers destroyed by a striker in a full contact fight while trying to gain a lock or submission, leaving themselves open because they didn't really understand the art of striking.

  2. Jujitsu leaves you open to strikes, but there are many ways to 1. limit the impact of the strikes, 2. jam up the strikes, 3. tie up the arms so they cant be used altogether.

If you arent training to use over/underhooks and high and tight knees when in guard then you have a huge hole in your game.
