Greek Life??????????

Question

I was wondering if I should join a sorority at the college they sent me an invite but is greek life fun? Let me know your opinions!

I have been extremely successful WITHOUT a greek social network. Greeks at my school and throughout my state have dealt with a lot of violence, sexual assault, and closings due to hazings and drugs. I have had multiple friends experience date rape at frat parties. Though I realize there can be positive aspects, I have an amazing group of friends and a strong social network by getting involved on my campus (PLUS, I don't have to constantly shell out money to be active in those groups!)

Pledged by Alexandra Robbins is an amazing book that covers good and bad parts of Greek life. I would say don't do it, but it's a personal decision. Good luck!

It doesn't hurt to meet the sorority. Each sorority is different, so don't discredit the girls just because there are certain rumors about it at your school.

You should go to their open house (if they have it) and get to meet the girls. That way you can better gauge if joining is the right fit for you.

Greek life can be fun. One of my friends joined and it's a great network and you get to meet some really nice girls. However, rushing is a major time commitment. At my school, for sororities, while it wasn't required that you go to all the rush events, many girls did go because it's how the new sisters all get to know each and bond. Also, your grades may fall. I heard rushing is like taking another class.
