  1. If you Grey is newly fledged, I'm assuming it is still being hand-fed and weaning. Watery stools could be because of the amount of water in the formula you are feeding it - but tough to say with just that bit of info provided.

It is VERY normal at this stage to have them vomit after a meal. They usually are weaning and their crop is shrinking and adapting to be able to eat other foods. Are you providing him with fresh fruits, veggies, pastas and pellets in his cage for him to eat? Also make sure that there is always fresh water available. Like was mentioned in the other answer, I would be scared to death to think ANY type of vet would give meds without a dx. We ONLY take our birds to a reputable Avian Vet that specializes solely in birds.

How much are you feeding him at each feeding? If his crop is very full when he vomits, that is most likely the cause. If he is throwing up as you are feeding him and his crop is NOT full, it could be a burned crop from being hand fed food that's too hot or a bacterial issue. A burned crop can be treated with a little aloe vera juice instead of water when you mix his food, or with plain yogurt mixed with aloe vera juice.

I hope all goes well for you.

  2. Medication can take a day or two to be effective.

However, I would take him to an avian vet.  While many vets have "bird experience" an avian vet will be far more knowlegable about your AG.

I hope he feels better soon!

  3. The parrot's brain is telling it to cut back on what it eats so it can slim down and learn to fly. This is natural for a bird to regurgitate if you feed it to much when it is fledging. How old is your parrot? Are you still hand feeding it. Did the vet take blood and stool samples? How did he decide to give it the medicine that he did? Most vets are not Avian certified. There is a difference in a Zoology vet and a Avian vet. I usually see red flags when a vet gives medicine before lab results are back. How does he know what he is treating? Some medicine takes as much as 48 hours before reaching therapeutic levels that are needed for combating the problem. Good luck with your bird. I wouldn't worry about watery p**p. Now if it is a runny p**p then that is different. If it is just a small stool and a clear liquid then don't worry. Do you have a book on African Greys? It is important to read up on them as they are a different character than most other parrots.

As a pet I wouldn't own a African Grey. I prefer an play parrot like one of the Amazons.  I prefer to hand raise the Africans much more than the Amazons. The Amazons are in to much of a hurry to wean and get out of Dodge. African Greys are much slower paced than the Amazons.

I don't worry if the baby is weaning and I am still feeding it. I abundance wean my babies. I occasionally over feed a baby and it will spit up some food. It is a normal reaction. Now if it does it every time then you need to do some reading. Are you trying to feed it with a syringe? Are you making sure that the temp of the food is correct?
