Growing grass from collected seed?

I have lots of tall fescue, cocksfoot and other grasses growing on my driveway. If i took the seed (I just got all the inflorecence from the stem) from them then planted it what is the liklihood of good germination? Is there something else they do commercially to make the seed viable?

It would depend on your climate.  It might do just fine. I'm not sure if those seed need a stratification process it must undergo before germination.  If you direct sow them, Nature would do the process for you, minus what birds and mammals eat.  Also the % viable seed might be low with a "wild" seed opposed to modern hybrids, but that may not matter at all here.  

Your other option is to store it over winter and sow next spring.  Seed must be dry before storage, press the seed with your thumbnail, it should be too soft, rather more hard.  Store in paper or fabric bags, not plastic.  Keep cool and dark.
