Guinea pig!?!?!?!!?!?

Question

i just put my hand into my guinea pigs cage and it bit me soo hard out of now where and it broke the skin and i was bleeding really bad and now i dont know if im going to get somthing from the bite.

can you tell me if i am?

No, you wn't. Very few diseases are zootonic (able to spread from animals to humans), and these diseases are even rarer in household pets. You will be fine

Sorry.  Guinea pigs usually don't bite.  I'm surprised to hear that.  Guinea pigs will nibble on your hand if they smell food on them so make sure you always wash your hands before holding them.  You aren't going to catch anything from the bite since it is a domestic animal.

you wont so dont worry , your gp must of thought it was food and went in. Ive only had a little nip and that hurt a bit so ouch !!!

As long as you bled enough to clean out the wound you should be fine. You only need to worry about infections rather than some specific disease. OTOH, if it bit you in the knuckle, those can get nasty. Basically, the things to worry about are excessive pain and swelling, or redness that begins to leave the immediate area of the bite.

Think of it as a watch and wait. You can always soak your hand in warm water with Epsom salts if you're concerned about how clean the bite is.

No, it should be ok,ive been bitten by hamsters before & i have been fine! Just wash it of & dry it off & put a plaster or something on it!

Domesticated animals rarely carry,transmitted dieases through biting, so not to worry! Hope this helps.

Mine did exactly the same to me, and they do have a nasty bite because they actually do try to chew and not just bite but don't worry i don't think you will be at risk of catching anything.

I think you can but the chances are low.

I wouldn't do that again lol, I've had over 50 guinea pigs and never been bitten but I don't poke my fingers in their cages because I know they easily mistake fingers for food!

You can't catch anything from them from a bite.
