Yesterday I got 2 guinea pigs from a neighbor who couldn't take care of them anymore. They are about a year old, and look like they are full size.
Anyways, one of them, a long haired named Snickers, sneezes a lot! She won't for a while, but then all of the sudden out of the blue about every 20 seconds she'll let out a sneeze. Yesterday they sounded simply like she was blowing air out of her nose faster then usual, but now it's started to sound like there is something in her nose. We just cleaned their cage today, used Super Pet cage cleaner, and refilled it with their Carefresh bedding. We also put some timothy hay over the bedding. Earlier, we shampooed them for the first time with Super Pet pet shampoo. Is there anything we did wrong? Could it simply be the change of housing? Or could it be a respiratory infection? If it is an infection, is it possible to "wait it out" and let it heal for itself or does it require vet attention? And about how much, if we needed to go, would it cost to take her to the vet to see if she is infact sick?
Also, when my mom and I were cleaning out the cage, my sister was playing with them making them run around, go into their houses, and eat some veggies treats. She also created a small obstacle course they didn't quite understand how to use, so she just lifted them onto the boxes and such, then they'd walk around a little, but not much. So it didn't seem like very much exercise, but now she looks pooped and is laying with her arms and legs spread out. Is this normal? Could she just be tired, or could it be an illness? She's usually very skiddish if I stick my hands in the cage, but she just laid their this time and let me pet her.
Thanks if you can answer my questions!
