i was recently given my dad's old acoustic guitar, which has had the same strings for 30 years...which i'm obviously changing, but the fretboard is really rough...there's lots of small grooves and holes in it that make bending and vibrato quite hard...how can i make the fretboard smoother?

  1. you should get a new one put on. one made of rosewood is traditional. Go to a local instrument dealer and see if they have a repair shop or if they know of one.  But before you decide to do that try filling the grooves with polyeurathane and lightly sand it. This probably won't achieve the desired result but it is worth a shot before you pay to have it replaced.
