I'm an 11 year old boy and I used to play on the guitar when I was like 6. Now I don't want to play so much and my whole family is begging me to play, escpeically my dad because he's a guitarist. I don't know what to say because I sort of want to play guitar and I don't want to hurt my dad's feelings by saying no. I need help!

  1. well break ur guitar then u can't play i did that once w. my dog cause i ddin't want to walk him so i broke his leg1 it worked! trust me,, then  u won't have to play ur guitar,, say ur little sis broke it!!!

  2. I'd say you just have to tell him and your family the truth. Tell them that you just don't have a passion for Guitar. Tell them what you think you really do have a passion for.

And if you don't have one as of now, well, don't worry, you'll find it someday.

  3. How about you tell your dad that you aren't sure whether you want to play or not, but that you're willing to give it some effort and time, say, practice a certain amount of time each week, for six months.  If at the end of that period, you don't want to continue, he should let you off the hook.  If you do want to continue, then great!

I'm teaching myself to play guitar right now (I played when I was your age, for a little while).  I'm 40 now, and I wish I had stuck with it!  I play other instruments and have been in several bands, and now I am switching to electric guitar! : )

So I think it's worth just giving it a good try before deciding for good that you aren't interested in it, and moving on to another interest or hobby.

Good luck talking with your dad.

  4. well the thing is that your family should never pressure you into anything- and they probably arent but if they are you need to let them know. Also in my opinion, i know what its like to get to the age of 16 and wish with all your heart that your parents had given you the opportunity to learn the guitar. Im 17 now and ive taught myself the guitar, its the best feeling in the world. Just know that learning an instrument can get you really far, and that you should grab the opportunity while you can. Theres also the alternative that maybe the guitar isnt for you but have you tried the Bass?? its very fun!!

good luck and believe in yourself

    !!!!

    :)

  5. just play when ur asked...or play fun songs so that it makes u want to play

  6. just tell him the truth bro, your only 11 you got your whole life ahead of you to make him proud

  7. Well at least try it maybe you will like it. after that talk to your dad about it maybe he will under stand or ask him to be your teacher maybe you will feel more comfortable

  8. Ask him if it's cool to take a break. Say you're a bit burned out by the whole music thing (especially if you're doing exams) and need to take a rest from it and perhaps in a little while (don't put a time on it) you can take it up again when you've had a break. There is a lot of pressure to do well if you're doing exams/esteddfods and all that. Tell them you just need a rest from it.

You never know, you may want to take it up again later so it's not a lie.

As someone who taught music, there is nothing worse than teaching someone who didn't want to be there. If talking to your parents doesn't work talk to your music teacher. They may be able to help you if they are nice.

    All the best. XOX
