  1. Buy everything Dinosaur Jr ever recorded, and practice playing along.

    Practice, practice, practice.

  2. first learn the pentatonic scale if you could it would be a lot easier to learn to improvise i suggest searching it in http://www.ultimate-guitar.com then just keep on repeating the scale up and down up and down until you get used to it. then put on variations. like bending sliding hammer on pull offs. it after a while it becomes natural for you and it will sound like a solo. go to http://www.justinguitar.com and click the one on blues he'll give you some guitar licks to practice on. to expand your soloing. so good luck and enjoy playing.

  3. Learn the major and minor scales, the pentatonic scales, and the blues scale to start.

After that, learn how modes work and learn them- ionian, dorian, phrygian, lydian, mixolydian, aeolian, and locrian.

Learn to use a combination of arpeggios, scales, modes, and chromatic notes.
