  1. Well I reckon acoustic because it's harder so once you've got that it's slightly easier to play electric. I don't play electric but I have before and imo acoustic's harder!

  2. It depends on the person's approach.  If you want to go ahead and get your callouses out of the way, play acoustic first. If you want to be as little frustrated as possible, start with electric.  I personally recommend starting with an electric with .10 guage strings.

  3. I love the sound of an acoustic and you can hear yourself without an amp. I'm for acoustic.

  4. well, both are very great choices and both help u gain experiance. i started off with a acousic guitar, but when i go my electic, i felt that it was easier me bcuz wit a acoustic guitar, u have to put ur fingers hard on the frets. the electric feels more comfortable bcuz u barey hav to put ur fingr on the fret. again they both are good choices!

  5. STOP! You're both right!

The honest to god truth is, it just doesn't matter.

I learned both at the same time, then played mainly acoustic for years. For the past five years I've played an equal mix. For me, it depends totally on the song I'm playing as to which of my many guitars I choose.

Granted, the way you play a straight electric guitar is different from an acoustic-electric or acoustic. So what? You can easily master all of these.

As guitar instructor, I prefer that my students play both, but it's not a requirement.

Your best best is to get off the fence and on a guitar – any guitar!

  6. I agree with Chess, acoustic - spend time strengthening your fingers and building callouses, plus you won't have the 'wailing solo' mentality - I made that mistake, played electric for six or seven years before changin to acoustic, never looked back.

  7. Actually I like the sound of acustic but i didt mind learning electric first. Its lik...hardcorish lik me!! :) Its a tie for me...I luv Acustic but then again i learned off electric. I doesnt matter which is first. Basically if u learn the cords u can play either of them.

  8. well i don't really have the experience to pick one or the other, but i got my first one earlier this year and it was acoustic, i played my brothers electric last week and i'm happy with my acoustic

  9. Well I've been teaching classical and acoustic for years and I always recommend the acoustic for my beginning students, so as far as I'm concerned your right ! Not only is it easier but who wants to listen to someone play electric guitar who doesn't know how to play yet. Electric to me only sounds good after you learn how to play it !
