Guys and dolls?

Question

i'm trying out for the role of Adilede for Guys and dolls JR.

i want this part more than anything in my life and i just want to go for it. the thing is, i'm a great actress, but my voice isn't amazing. i can hold a tune i guess, but i'm no broadway star.

what can i do to sing the song Bushel and a Peck better for my auditon?

and they're not having us sing in accents

ok adelaide, well shes not even really the best singer but the crowd loves it if you can project it, you know? in bushel and a peck just make sure that youre very cutesy, perky, eccentric.

adelaide is more of an acting role than a singing role, in fact my director actually told me to sing WORSE and just look like im having a lot of fun.

you don't need to be an amazing singer to be adilede, carol brunette had the role...she is one of the greatest female comics of all time, but her voice...not great:P just try to use a lot of personality and open you're mouth when you sing..it will keep you from sounding at all nasale. In the end, you're acting will probably be what stand out anyway. good luck!

You are what make the part. It's YOUR voice they'll want to hear. Have fun, and make believe you're performing, and just be..a doll. Be flirty, but keep it sweet, because the time period is different.

First of all, it's important to have confidence!! Don't let them know that you are concerned with your voice and you will do fine. It's when you tell them straight off that you don't like your voice or show them that you are super nervous that will make you look unprepared for the role.

Secondly, Adelaide is a very cutesy role, so play it up! Use your acting skills to make up for your singing. Make gestures, use facial expressions, and put your all into the performance. Your singing can always improve when you guys get into rehearsals.

Lastly, PRACTICE! Sing it until you know it by heart. Sing LOUD. Open your mouth and enunciate every word. Good luck!
