Question:

HD for Dish Network worth it?

This is the first time ordering satellite service, and I decided to go with Dish Network because it's cheaper. I'm not into sports so I'm not excited about the NFL Sunday ticket and the other sports channels they offer. What I'm still unsure about is all the HD channels they have been advertising. I have ordered a premium package with the standard dvr. Do you think this was a mistake? Are the standard channels going to be grainy on a 42" plasma,or is it worth the extra money to go with hd? I'm not too picky, and I don't have to have the best, but I also don't want to spend a lot of money for a grainy picture either. Since I ordered this yesterday, I still have to time to change my mind. Any suggestions? If you have either standard or hd service, feel free to comment about the pros and cons......either on dish or direct tv. Thanks!

  1. hd is going to be worth it from any provider, especially now with the new compliance that everyone is trying to meet.

either one of the two satellite companies will be a grat upgrade as opposed to cable since they are all digital to begin with

  2. We got the HD-DVR package, which runs us a total of $81/mo.  This includes a SD DVR in the bedroom,  a HD DVR in the living room, 200 channels plus the HD package.

Watching non-HD channels on a HDTV is OK, they won't be too fuzzy/grainy but they don't look nearly as nice as the same channel in HD.

Though I guess it depends on what you watch.  Cartoon Network is now available in HD, for instance, but that's rather pointless since a cartoon in HD is just, well, pointless.  Besides which, it messes with the aspect ratio.  Discover and TLC in HD, however, are very much worth watching.
