I am unable to get sound from my tv by using hdmi cable. I tried with ps3 and dvd upconversion. Both of them have picture only and no sound.I tried all three hdmi plug from my tv and none of the works. I tested the hdmi cable at my friend's house and it works perfectly with no problem. Wonder is it some kind of tv setting?? my tv is a samsung LCD HDTV LN32A450 (my tv's hdmi does support sound so its not that. i checked)

  1. Your question is a bit unclear since you talk about sound "from" your TV. To be clear there are both input and output jacks on most TVs. I am assuming you are connecting the PS3/upconverting DVD player via HDMI to the INPUT of the HDTV, and that you have verified that the PS3 is setup to output sound and video over HDMI.

Assuming that, you definitely should get picture and sound. There are virtually no settings that will impact on sound, other than if the TV speakers are muted. If that is the case you won't get sound.

The only thing I can suggest is to check you get sound from TV programs, and that you are selecting the right HDMI input (HDMI 2 is intended for DVI -- which is video only, so you should avoid that input for now) for the PS3. If correct try the PS3 to see if you get sound via analog cables. If it is only the HDMI that isn't working you may have a TV problem -- service issue.

    Good luck
