Hello everyone! I know this isn't where I should be asking this, but I've tried other places and haven't gotten any responces so any help is wonderful! I'm not really sure where I should be asking this question, but I'm going to give it a try.

There is a local child that has recently passed away, the family had no life insurance on him so my husband and I were trying to things that we can do to try and help. This child was loved by all people throughout the community so I'm sure it won't be hard getting others involved. We were thinking a Texas holdem tournament with a buy in for like $40-$45? Is that too high? I mean we'd give everything to the family (other then what we'd need for food/whatever?) I've never done anything like this before and I was just wondering if someone has and could give me advice or point in me in the right direction. Any advice would be wonderful! I just want to thank you in advance for helping! Have a great day!!!

  1. I have no idea if it’d help at all, but what about having a 50/50 raffle and having all the local business donate something? I’m sure with a story like this you can get some help to get it together. Contact your local news station (if appropriate, I don’t know the story).

I do think your Texas Hold’em is a great idea! Why not set up a message board some place and put out suggestions? See what your community is willing to do or  not do….

The sad part is, lots of people are in financial predicaments, so I don’t know how much people would be able to give. But hey, any money to help contribute is a good way to start.

You’re doing a very admirable thing. You should be proud of yourself. I wish you lots of luck in this!!!

  2. why or how did he die? and yes u cood do something like that. and that amount is not to high at all.

  3. Good Idea! I think you are on the right track with competition of some sort - If you go with the Texas Hold 'em, I think $40 would be a good buy in, and have a split pot - half to the winner, half to the support of the family. You could also conduct a 50/50 draw while the tournament is going on as well.

Alternatively, get together with the community and have a massive yard sale or something - with the proceeds going to the the family also.

Good on you for even taking the time to consider this.

  4. You could do something like that.

I am not sure who... but usually a business or place that the boy was often part of would offer/sponsor a non-profit fundraiser event. Here the radio stations have agreed to advertise for non-profit things.

Last year a man who had colon cancer had a big cook out with a band and raffles. People paid the fee for each person to get in.

The money was to pay for his bills and help his family.

Just put together what you would like to do.

Where what you want to do also involves gambling... you may have to find out if there are state guidelines or permits you have to obtain as well.
