Hagler (1981) vs Cotto present?

Marvelous would win.  He was stronger, bigger and a harder hitter than Cotto.  Cotto is agressive, whcih would help in against Mayweather but kill him against Hagler.  Cotto is not the boxer Hagler was.

marvelous marvin hagler does it for me i rekon, but cotto aint reached his prime yet so its best to compare hagler to de la hoya or gatti, also micky ward. they are past it now and can be fairly compared to the other greats.

who knows m8, cotto could lose his next 5 straight fights by KO, then who would we compare him to .     :D

as much as i like Cotto as a fighter i would have to go with Hagler. the fighters back the were hungrier and more brutal than now.

Cotto isn't in the same category with Hagler.   Hagler would KO Cotto in about 6 rounds.   Think  about what he did to Thomas Hearns or  James the beast Mugabi.   Both big time punchers & extremely good records.   He destroyed both of them.

Its hard to answer this question yet, wait till the end of Cotto's career till you honestly try and answer that question. The biggest one being.. how is Cotto's chin?? that would be my big what if factor in a Hagler-Cotto fight prediction.

But dont forget that Hagler was  middleweight and Cotto is a Welterweight...although I dont Think Cotto would have trouble making the weight. But he is certainly not going to be as strong vs a  bigger Hagler.

In making a case for Cotto I will say I dont know if any other fighter including Hagler could have taken those body shots that Mosley took. I was so super impressed with Cotto after the Mosley fight I was shocked.

I was certain that Mosley would knock Cotto out, and im a guy who has been watching Cotto since his destruction of Cesar Bazan back in 02 or 03.

Cotto showed he had more then just a strait up Puertorican fighter, he could bend and move, bob n weave, throw looping punches....I was watching in dis belief because I have never seen a fighter go from fighting one way his whole career and then all of sudden change it up like that.

So Ill wait till the end of Cotto's career to make that prediction.  You have a whole career to take into consideration for Haglers side, but only the middle of a career for Cotto.

cotto is a tough m**o with a lot of power but hagler is the bigger man and hes got a granite chin... so id have to go with hagler

Well one is Middleweight and one is a Welter at this time so its hard to compare but one thing i will say is that Hagler took Tommy Hearns best shot who was also a very heavy handed Welter just like Cotto but Hagler never even blinked and knocked Hearns across the ring in the next round. Cottos chin is still being questioned as he has been in desperate trouble in a couple of his fights, if Ricardo Torres can have Cotto hanging on what would Hagler do to him. Hagler would KO Cotto within 3 rounds.
