Halloween Costume Trouble?

My Halloween Costume this year requires a dark purple suit jacket. Odds are I know I'm not going to find exactly that, but I know I can find it in a black or grey color. How could I make the suit jacket the color I want?

Generally by dyeing, but since you want a dark color, you need to start with a light-colored jacket.
