Halloween Party Planning?

Question

I've never hosted a Halloween Party before and am looking for some ideas and tips for doing it this year.

Decoration?

Food?

Drink?

Music? Etc....

make sure you dont make it cheesy

with the whole fake graveyards,

and spiderwebs and everything,

but i think the house should be kinda dim,

and that it should be a costume party,

to make things a little more fun.

but i dont think you really should have

decorations, depending how old you are..

and for the music, i would just put up

whatever's popular and enjoyable for everyone.

Perhaps you could do a buffet with stations. You could have several tables, each one dedicated to a different type of food or theme, spread from the living room all the way into the back yard. You could also have a fire in the backyard for roasting marshmallows and hotdogs.

I would stick with whatever kinds of drinks your guests like. You can make a punch bowl look eerie by placing it inside a slightly larger bowl full of dry ice and pouring hot water over it:

There are a lot of choices for decorations. You could go with an overall theme or make the living room, kitchen, and backyard each a different theme. One year I made my apartment look like a traditional haunted house (or would that be haunted apartment?) from an old movie. I used spooky candelabras and sconces, a stack of old books with a skull on top, and you can attach those Halloween window-cling ghosts to old mirrors. Sometimes the coolest decorations come from flea markets. Also, pumpkins can be used as serving bowls, candle holders, and flower vases.

If you have a CD changer fill it with as many different Halloween CDs as you can find, mixed with other good songs like "Werewolves of London", "Dead Man's Party", and "Toccata and Fugue". Here is the longest Halloween song list I have found:

One of my favorite things to make is chocolate graveyard:

Use either a chocolate cake or chocolate pudding as the base. Crush chocolate cookies and spread them on top for the "dirt". Use Milano cookies as gravestones. Fill a small-tipped pastry bag with chocolate icing and use it to write "RIP" on the cookies, then insert them about 1/3 of the way into the cake. Use the same bag to draw eyes and mouths on mini-marshmallows to make skulls then place them around the gravestones. Make ghosts out of whipped cream or buy Peeps ghosts

You could have a candy bar.  Lots of different candies all over the table.  I don't know how old you are but if you are old enough a keg goes a long way.  For music, just hook up your Ipod to a speaker and put it on shuffle.
