Question:

Hamster cage help?

Recently, I switched my dwarf hamster (Syrian Royal Dwarf) to a aquarium. My mum won't let me keep the old cage. In the new one, Gracie has:

food bowl

water bottle

nest

wheel

The wheel flops around because of the bedding. I can't clear a spot because we got this tank from a friend, and it's glass and it isn't clean on the bottom. We got some special hyperallerginic stuff from the pet store that will kill the germs. I hope I can find a solution! Should I get another wheel? She's 1 and 1/2 years old. Does she need exercise? She already runs around in the cage all the time.

  1. All you have to do to make the wheel stop moving is stick the bottom in the bedding and cover the wire that shows it should stop moving.

  2. Yea trust me hamsters get fat easily...haha

one of my hamsters never went on the wheel for some reason and got really fat

    (it was a dwarf)

its also a good way to keep a hamster in shape

  3. Yeah, she defiantly need exercise! My hamster (Thistle) is 1 yr. 2 mo. old she is still REALLY active. If I were you, I would buy a different cage. Get a wire one. In glass aquariums hamsters don't get the breeze that they get in wire cages. Hamsters need that breeze to catch scents. They can't see very well so they rely on smell. That's my advice.

  4. Yes, get a new wheel!

  5. Yes she needs excercise.   You might try putting a layer of uncolored newspaper underneath the bedding.  Just be really careful with cleaning products because of the sensitivity of the respiratory track..

  6. First before you get another wheel make sure this one isn't wobbly because of the bedding. It may be wobbly because it is dented or something. So I don't know if you should get a new wheel. Yes your hamster still needs exercise. It doesn't matter how old your hamster is. I hope this fixes your problems. Good luck!   :)-

  7. My gerbil always tips his wheel over. All I do is tape it to the side of the cage with scotch tape.

  8. all animals need exercise to keep in shape

  9. it is fine
