Hamster cage!!!?

Question

i am not sure if the cage i like is good for my future Syrian hamster

can anybody show me the cage i should get?

it would be best if from pet smart

Mazuri is a good food, so is Oxbow.  I feed my hamsters Oxbow healthy handfulls, but that isn't something most Petsmarts carry.  Just try not to give them a seed mix, as it isn't very good for them (They'll just pick out the stuff they like) and it can cause obesity.  I usually give mine some seed mix every now and then as a treat in addition to their normal food.

For a cage, no crittertrails are really big enough for Syrian hamsters, and they can often get stuck in the tubes. :(   So you want to get something somewhat big (Bigger then a 10 gallon) and with wire if you can.

That's still a little smaller then I would like to use, but you have to be careful because if the bars are spaced too far apart he could get out.

You could also make a cage for it yourself using a bin- it's cheaper and easy!  I've done this with several of my rodents.

a glass fish tank is best for hamsters its big and they can never escape they're really cheap too I got mine for $10. You can also purchase a lid for it so they can't get out by standing on their house and what not but mine escaped for years as soon as i used the tank it ended that little escape artists adventures....hope that helps

Get a 10 gallon aquarium. they cost about 10 dollars.  they are the best choice because they cant chew through it like they could with a plastic or wire cage and trust me, any plastic in the cage will be chewed.  also because aquariums are so cheap you have more money to spend on toys or whatever for them.

A good hamster cage? Well.. They're cheaper when they're online.

And I was right where you were less than three days ago, before I got my teddybear hamster! Named sniffles =D

And mind you, everything in the pet store is a little bit more expensive than it is online. I'm not really sure why.

And for food, you want something with a good mix. Nothing with just seeds, thats not the greatest thing for them.

That should be good. The hamster food I get is a little bit cheaper, but isn't on the website. It's called Vita-Vittles Hamster diet. It's what I've bought my past hamsters that all have lived a very long time.

And if you want to make sure you have a happy little healthy clean ham, I recomend chinchilla SAND not dust. I've heard that dust can give them respratory problems. But I'm not sure, im not an expert.

And if you want to buy them little vitamin drops to go in their water is good too, because sometimes, if you give them more than enough food they just eat their favorites.

And be sure to buy some chews for their teeth too, otherwise they will over grow. My hamster seems to like these
