  1. There are rumors that small rodents such as mice, rats and hamsters carry rabies.

The fact is they do not.

Rabies/Plague are actually carried by infected lice/mites onto the rodents, thus infecting them quickly, because they have a bad immune system.

However, the animals which are raised in captivity have 99% chances of not having rabies, an so, I believe your hamster is certainly NOT infected with rabies.

Don't worry, hamsters do bite, and sometimes the bites cases bleeding.

I've had several hamsters and also got bitten several times, but I am healthy.

Well, you did force the blood out, so there is no chance of getting rabies.

Just don't worry, and clean the wound and then use antiseptic on the wound....bandages are not required.

Just love your hamster, and don't fear it, or your hamster wouldn't get used to you.

Play with it, and yes, you can expect bites if you don't bond and trust your hammy.

It's been ages since my Fluffy bit me....we are best buddies now!

    Just don't worry too much.

  2. I think you're over reacting.  While it is possible for hamsters to contract rabies (any mammal can catch it), I have never heard of a rabid hamster or of a case of rabies spread from hamsters to humans.  Unless this hamster roams the neighborhood at night fraternizing with rabid animals there is absolutely zero chance that the hamster even has rabies.  This hamster would have to have come into direct contact with an infected animal and that animal would have had to bite the hamster.  Even if the hamster had come into contact with a rabid animal very few hamster-sized mammals contract rabies simply because most things that would give them rabies are going to either eat or kill them when they bite the hamster.

  3. If you really worried go and see a doctor and take the hamster to a vet. I am so glad that we do not have rabies here in Australia.

  4. go to the doctor and ask

  5. If the hamster had rabies (very unlikely if it was somebody's pet then it would have shown symptoms by now.  If it has shown no symptoms (it would be dead) then you have not got rabies.  It is too late for rabies shots but i doubt they are necessary.

  6. Eh... Idk get a rabies shot?

  7. i don't think you will get rabies cus the hamster would have been tested for that at the pet store and they wouldn't sell it if it had rabies. so i don't think you do...

however you can get tetnus from a hamster biting you and thats very serious. if if you've had your tetnus jab updated resently then you should be fine. if not go to the doctor and get a jab done.

you might be over reacting just a little bit.

if you are still worryed go to the doctor.

    hope i helped =]

  8. If your hamster does not have rabies there is no way to get rabies from it. You're probably fine, most animals don't just have rabies. If it dies in a few days or you feel really weird symptoms talk to your doctor, but I think it's a bit of an overreaction. I've been bitten tons by gerbils and hamsters and I'm just fine.

  9. small house keep animals don't get rabies, because if a big animal that has rabies then they finish the job and kill it! and it in your house

just give it a good clean and wash with disinfection, and it will be fine i one of these rules of nature,
