Hamstrings pain after Squats?

i've done 15 squats ( 2 sets of 15 ) and i feel a pain in my hamstrings, more like a cramp. what is the problem?

P.S. this is not the first time i feel the "pain"

BTW: i have a low level of magnesium and calcium in my body.

  1. Thats quite normal.

    Maybe your not too used to it. keep doing them. it'll become normal after sometime.

    if its a cramp it could be potassium. and since you have low calcium and magnesium this is quite likely. make sure your hydrated enough, cramps are often due to dehydration.

    get your potassium from a banana or atleast gatorade.

    also don't dip too low when your squatting. your trying to work your quads not your hamstrings.

    end your squat pretty high (it'll still burn) and target your hamstrings with a different exercise like lunges.

  2. no problem, most people will experience sore muscles (especially hamstrings) from squats, you will find the more you do over a long period of time the less sore you are the next day

  3. You need to warm up and cool down. Likewise after the exercise, you need to do some nice hamstring stretches, stops them from tightening up, cramping.
