If I learned the techniques of animation like human and animal walk cycles,timing,appealing,overlapping,stag... tangents and other techniques in the animation book, doesn't it mean i should go to 2d animation college?

  1. Not really though it good to learn it 2d before attempting, learning in 3d but you can do it the other way: depends how the way you learn. Most art colleges support 2d as well as 3d animation and clay animation: But if you want to get ahead of the game I recommend these books, items and websites:

    Items:

A Waccom tablet (A must for 2d digital animation and art)

Adobe Flash or Toon Boom (an 2d animation software)

3d max or Maya ( 3d software that expensive but worth it but the alternative and free software will be Blender)

Zbrush (Really good 3d software but gotta have a strong computer)

Photoshop (A must for all digital artists)

A light table and scanner (if you want to to it the traditional way)

    Books:

Richard Willams: The Animator's Survival Kit  (a must have book for all animators)

3d max 6 animation: CG fimmaking from concept to compleation ( a book for doing 3d animation)

How to Cheat in Flash CS3: The art of design and animation in Adobe Flash CS3 (for flash cs3 animation)

    Good luck in  Animating

  2. sounds like your doing a fine job, you could probably do what ever you want artistically, but if you like 2d animation why not go to a college that supports it?

  3. Most animators learn 2-D first because it is visually and mentally easier to learn. However if you want to achieve and improve your learning/ education/job u can start to learn 3-D and eventually take 3-D cources in collage or university because that's where the work is a lot nowadays with all the movies and games being produced
