Has Frankel retired before time?
In the presence of the Queen, the huge crowd of the British sport lovers and the spotlights of the international sports media, the superstar colt, Frankel, called it a day right after winning the high-profile race of Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot on October
20.
It was an emotional scene indeed; Frankel’s fans were tearful, his jockey, Tom Queally, was sad and his trainer, the legend Sir Henry Cecil, looked to be overflowing with applause for the bay colt.
With his 14-race unbeaten record, the huge prize money worth £3,735,532 and some all-time ace titles, the four-year-old star runner has moved to stud prestigiously.
But, many sport lovers and analysts claim that the retirement has come before time as they think that the young and skilled colt still possesses enough potential to extend his fabulous record.
This is true to some extent as pulling the strings of a runner, who is at the top of his game, cannot be a wise decision. Frankel’s owner, K. Abdulla, has mentioned no obvious reason for this abrupt decision.
The way Frankel fought and won in the Qipco Champion Stakes despite the fact that the conditions were not favourable for him, was amazing indeed. He convincingly beat Cirrus Des Aigles by 1¾ lengths.
The results of the Group 1 race revealed that Frankel was all ready to accomplish some more iconic feats like that, and there seemed to be no signs of tiredness on his face.
Despite all these factors, he has been forced to stud. This is quite strange.
However, Frankel is an immoral icon in the world of horseracing. His fans will never be able to forget the way he used to run and win.
Cecil has paid rich tribute to his star colt. He said, “I am so lucky to have been allocated Frankel to train. He has been an inspiration and challenge, which I really needed so badly. Through my illness, I feel that the help from my wife Jane and the determination
to be there for Frankel has helped me so much to get through the season.”
Queally spoke, “I’m just so proud to have been associated with him. To have had this opportunity has been a million to one shot. It’s been an amazing journey.”
It does not seem feasible in the near future that some other British horse comes and breaks Frankel’s record, but if someone does so, it will be really a great feat. Best wishes for Frankel’s post-retirement life.
