Has Huckabee hit his stride?

Now polls are showing that not only is Mitt Romney catching back up in Iowa, but that Mike Huckabee is actually losing a fair portion of the support he's gained in the last month. Now he and Romney are essentially tied, 28% to 27%. Evangelical support for Huckabee slipped from 62% last week to 49% this week. Support from other Protestants has lagged from 33% to 17%. These are not just blips in the data; these are major declines.

As I've said before, this is very similar to Fred Thompson's "announcement bump" which faded almost as quickly as it flared up. Huckabee supporters are seeing past the mystique to the actual candidate. For a time, he wore the coveted "mantle of electability", but now his numbers have started to trend downwards among the very people he's appealed to the most over the last year.

What do you think?

  1. Mike Huckabee climbed the ladder in the polls because of his excellent views on religion and morality which is acceptable to many voters.

  2. Mike Huckabee has climbed in the polls because he says what he means, and means what he says. The best thing about Mike is that you know where he stands (whether or not you agree with him is another thing), but you don't have to guess what he is about. He tells you and is very up front about it.

When asked about a report on international affairs, he was attacked when someone pointed out that he did not write the report or the opinion., He responded that he never clained to have written it, and even gave the write credit for it. Just goes to show, a politition does not need to have all the answers, but should know where to get them. (A lot of people would do a lot better if they followed that mantra)

  3. JUST WHAT WE NEED.... A baptist MINISTER AS PRESIDENT

  4. I don't know if he has or not. But I do know that these caucus polls mean very little until the final vote. Even then they don't mean a lot because they can still change before the convention. They have the potential go up or down everyday. Remember Howard Deans meteoric rise in the last elelction? If you weren't listening to the political shows, they were saying he's a shoe in.

  5. I think what Mike Huckabee did wrong was to incorporate scripture into some of his statements he recently made...The country is still following the constitution. Don't get me wrong I have nothing again scripture however he is running to be our President not our Preacher.
