  1. Yes! I went to Japan in January and loved it. The people that I met were some of the friendliest I have ever met before. I stayed with a host family in Nagoya and they were very hospitable.

But yup, there were only the odd few people who were rude-ish, but you would expect that anywhere.

  2. World is not so simple. Some American are so rude and offensive but some not. Same as well as Japanese.

If you'd like to be accepted, do let you accept them either.

Seeing is believing and the world is always waiting for you.

Once you knew outside of home town, if you came back there I bet you'd find that you love it so much more and more.

  3. Personally when I went to Japan I had a very good experience. No one was rude to me and if anything, they were all really nice and polite. If I needed help, I was always able to find someone that helped me as best as they could. When I walked into stores, all the workers greeted me nicely (but they do that for everyone). Restaurants were helpful with attempting English or trying to point certain things out to us. The only "mean" person I ran into was just a grumpy kid at the airport. I mostly stayed in "touristy" areas though (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Kamakura). I hear that the locals aren't as nice in smaller towns, but if you are visiting Japan most likely you wouldn't go to those towns anyways.

The term they use for foreigners is just a generic word. I think it used to be more derogatory, but I don't think as much anymore. At least in the urban areas, people are more open to foreigners.

I think overall though, the main thing is to respect their culture. If you follow their customs as closely as you can, they'll respect that and respect you.

  4. Okay. So i've only been to states for 4 years and i lived in japan for the rest of my life. :)

    And heres the scoop.

    1. You are a GAIJIN cuz that means forigener... so ppl may look at you differently and give you rude looks..

    2. Learn japanese culture and ppl wont think your a BAKA (stupid) gaijin, cuz i have seen soo many baka gaijins there and its funny.

    3. we just find it rude when ppl come to our country and dont want to respect our rules. :)

So in the end learn japanese culture. :D

  5. Japanese are almost friendly and kind to foreigners except Chinese. And why ?

Most of Americans and Europeans are never commit a crime in Japan.

Do not worry and enjoy your journey. !!

  6. Uh I am an American living in Japan and I love the people. They are extremely kind and totally make Americans look rude and stuck up.

I fly From NYC to Tokyo. It's about an 11-14 hour flight. It's not too bad if you take sleeping pills and sleep the whole way.

I actually just flew back Thursday. It was 13 hours. I slept 12 hours and 35 minutes of it.

I have not met a mean Japanese person. They may talk mad trash behind my back at home to their friends and family... but I really don't care because they are extremely nice and accommodating to you in person and pretty much serve you.  It's a bit uncomfortable at times as I want to leave them tips for their outstanding service but they find it rude. It tells them you are rich and flaunting your money and think you are better than them.

    Japan is awesome.
