Has anyone ever...?

Am I the only one who has posted a question, searching for help or advice regarding a horse issue, and only found 'answers' aiming to criticize or bash what you're doing? I don't understand people sometimes.

  1. I am not going to look at your profile because you said you had to delete some questions. LOL! I have seen what you are talking about on here. And just recently a girl received her first horse on here and one person told her it was ugly and another told her it was sway back uhhhggggg... To me it doesn't matter what the horse looked like because it was her FIRST horse and she was tickled to death. I love all my horses no matter their faults. Others opinions does not matter. My new horse TWH  "which is my dream horse" is so thick he looks like a QH and someone told me that while I was resting him one day.....well my so called QH left their  horse running to catch up with me. All I did was smile at that person and kept on going. And yes some on here think they know it all. So just ignore the rude ones on here and remeber what works for some may not work for others.

  2. What question did you ask and get criticized for?

There are a couple of subjects you will find people (especially in the US where horse populations are too high and prices too low) are touchy on.  One is breeding just because you have a mare or want a foal to raise and sell.

I do apologize if you were given too hard a time for a legitimate question you needed legitimate help with, but when I looked at the questions in your profile I did not find any question with answers that berated you.

  3. Well usually not. I think I've only found some in my questions like once or twice. Very rarely, but I'm sure your not alone. Some people just need to get a life, instead of criticizing others'. That's my opinion anyway :p

  4. I looked at your website and i think it was

nicer than some of the proffesional trainer websites.

yours was easy to find everything and straight to the point.

i love how in"our herd" you didnt put individual pictures

instead put pictures from your pasture.

I  think you horses looked very well tooken care of

    and had great confirmation!

  5. Ive notice unnecissary critisim in all parts of this site. people seem to have nothing nice to say and waste their time posting rude or unrelated comments just to earn a small 2 pts. I personally think its ridiculous. People come here for advice not for people to bash them.

  6. I looked on your profile and don't see where you were bashed or criticized.  Your previous question was about your concern for the conformation of your new horse.  All I saw was polite concerned answers.

    Please be more specific.

  7. Kellie Rae - I looked at your website just a few pages is all I have time for, and I didn't see dirty horses or poor conformation.  It's a website with "backyard" horse pics in it - obviously not professional, but nice enough still.

I haven't taken the time to look for "bashing" answers as others who've responded have - but they don't think they've seen any, so maybe you're being a little hyper-sensitive?

When you "put yourself out there" for the public to see, you are opening yourself up to criticism.  You must get tough, learn to sort the good from the bad, how to analyze criticism and take what you can from it.  You also must consider that people won't view your site or offerings from the same standpoint that you do - they have different opinions built from different experiences with different personality styles and drivers.

To many of us (and I say "us" because I'm one of them - typically a very detailed person) if we see a person asking a question with lots of poor grammer, horrible spelling and bad typing, we pass a judgement that that person really needs to improve and often see that person as somewhat "less" in knowledge or ability.  Although I'll admit, it's not fair, you must understand that this type of forum, and a website, do not allow face to face "first impressions".  Our first impression of a person with horribly typing, spelling or grammer is one that is somewhat slovenly - must like this - how would you feel about a person if they came to ask you for a job on your farm and they were slovenly dressed, had poor teeth, spoke and acted like a drug addict?  Would you immediately think twice about their abilities to handle horses?  It's human nature to pass a bit of judgement upon a person like this - so I think, if one is advertising something on the web, they should take the time to have the copy on the site passed through a spell check - or simply request someone that is good with spelling an grammer check out the site and suggest changes.  This will enhance your "first impression" with visitors to your site.

Also understand, there are many people out there will just plain a crappy disposition who seem to thrive on saying unkind things to others to make themselves feel better - I've met them on all types of scales - not fun.

Kellie Rae- I think what would help you not react to negative criticism would be to take some time to think about your goals - "picture" yourself as you percieve yourself right now - kinda like saying "this is a picture of the real me".  Do it honestly noting strengths and weaknesses.  Also get a "picture" of the ideal you - the one you could be if you were perfect in your view.  Then note - even on paper maybe - the differences between the two and focus on bringing them as close as you can.  This will serve to help you set goals, define what 'successful' means to you and thereby teach you to create your own success - you'll rely less and less on what other people think to make you feel good.

Then, when people come along that seem to bash you, you have your goals in your own mind to help you ignore their nastiness.

People say things that are mean all the time - they often think if you are not like them, you are wrong.  I think it's a growing problem in our society even to the point of epidemic.  Tree huggers think we should all be like them, vegan's think everyone should be - everyone thinks others should be like them.  Ya know, I eat meat - yet I don't stand on the sidewalk with signs saying "eat meat" and make a big show of what I am - I think it's important that we all learn about each other and the value in each other's differences - what can I learn from YOU - not how can I change you.

It is unfortunate that the horse world is somewhat susceptible to people who think their way is the only way - more even than some other hobbies or ways of life.  Many don't want to or are incapable of thinking that there might be another way to solve a problem for another person - what's worked for them may not work well for this situation.  This is very strange to me because true horsemen and women are the ones that can totally understand another species' language and thought processes - another SPECIES, not just another human language - yet some that can say they can do this cannot understand the differences in another human.

So - take everything you can from every interaction and find what you can learn from it.  All of it, the good the bad the whole pizza pie - because life isn't about how people treat you - it's about how you react to how they treat you.

Keep up asking questions - don't stop and don't give up learning.  There's a lot of people without the guts to even build something like you have- you should be proud of it and willing to make it better for all the people you can that come to visit and perhaps make an impression on you.

  8. Well i wouldnt say you are the only one who has asked a question regarding a horses. Looking for advice, i have asked a few about training.

But any way. I get what you mean. Latly more and more questions on here are about howrse, or names, or what do you think, quizes, how do i get a horse. Things like that. Which thats not what this section is for. Latly if anythings involves a horse it can be asked here. even if its in a game for two minutes!

I think somepeople are rude to others because they are jelous. Im jelous of you and how many horses you have. But i dont get mad about it. I have one horse at the moment so im good. But some people dont have a horse, and so they want to nit pick at everything with every one elses horses, to make them feel bad because they are jelous of people that have a horse, and they cant get one.

Plus some people are just not good with others. They dont know how to be kind. I get a good laugh whenever someone is mean to me here, or says i dont know what im doing, or thinks that they know me so well that i dont know what im doing. I dont ask breeding question here any more. All i get is 11 year olds saying stuff about horse slaughter, how my foal is just adding to it, and that im just going to ship it off to an auction. You know i never knew people on the internet could know some one so well after about 500 words lol.

If you are looking for some where to ask real questions about horses, with real answers from real horse people this is not the place. If you would like i can give you a nice place to ask those questions.

I agree with you, horse people should stick together. To bad this section isnt filled with horse people. To many whiney little kids on here. have you noticed when a question is asked about tack, only about three people answer. Well if its a question about cinching. But if its which one do you like better, it gets loads of answers. its because there arent reall horse people here.

Oh by the way i loved your website! Where did you get it. i want to make my self one about me training my horse to jump, and eventually her breeding, and the foal.

Oh and the photo of the first paint biting his ankle is soooo CUTE! i would have that as my backround!

I wish i could buy the mare for sale. She seems like an awesome horse! but out of my price range.

  9. I'm like you...if you can get it for free and you are pretty much just a side business, not licensed, why pay?

There is no reason to have a website done by a pro with your own domain unless it's something you are really pushing to earn you $.

A hobby, pffft...a free website is fine.

I will admit, if I am searching to look for a service and I see it's on a free website I will pass.  If the business doesn't have a domain then they are most likely not licensed or insured either.....or mature.

Stereotype but I am just telling you how I see it when I search for a service.

As for the comments about your horses, I found nothing to substantiate what was said.  Someone decided to target you and have all of their buddies join in.  A feeding frenzy.

Your horses are in great condition, their pastures are nice and each of them has a wonderful expression.

I do suggest removing the photo of the little girl though.  Never put any info or pics of children on the net.  Now that your home is available for all to see they now see there is a beautiful little girl too.  Please, for her safety, take it down. :)

  10. I liked your site, and I especially liked that in your pics, your horses looked healthy and happy.  I don't think I responded to your question, as I am super nitpicky and my answer would have been reeeally long.  I certainly wouldn't have been rude, though.  I think I must have missed all the rudeness/snarky comments you are talking about.

If you asked for critisicm and got it, then I don't know what the problem is.  But if you asked for criticism and got rudeness, then that is different.  Best to just ignore the morons....it won't make them go away but at least you won't have to waste energy thinking about them!

Like I said, I think you are definetely on the right track with your site.  If I were you I'd Google the sites of some big/top barns and take note of what their photos, bios, "about" pages, etc. are like and imitate them.  Good luck!

EDIT:  As for your mare not being conformationally sound, I sort of agree...she is not ideal in my book.  She looked rather long-backed (as I recall) and over at the knee.  The rest of her, though, I recall as being very nice.  I wouldn't draw attention to her faults by mentioning them - I would instead have her pic and list her accomplishments and then let people draw their own conclusions.

Sorry if any of this is coming off as rude - that is not my intention.  I also don't like having to handle things with kid gloves, though, or give disclaimers of "I don't mean to offend you but" before I answer peoples' questions.  I am only trying to be helpful, so I hope I have succeeded.

  11. I tried looking up your website, but of course, me not being all that computer savvy either, could not find Your part of the free website.  But in answer to your question, I would have to suggest that you ignore all of the answers that put you down for having a dirty horse or one that does not look good for show...who cares...he is your horse dirty or not and you love him.  If I worried every time my horse was dirty ( most of the time) I would not have time to enjoy them on the trail.  There are people out there that like to see themselves as better than everyone else, and know everything that there is to know about any given subject..well that is fine, let them think that and the rest of the world can go one with life and enjoy our imperfect horses.  You are wasting precious time and energy when you are getting all bent out of shape over someones remarks.  When seeing these negative remarks, you can bet that the author of that message is trying to make an

  12. I would love to see your web site .... I work with dirty horses with bad confirmation  .... but they put smiles on kids face .... teach balance and the best thing is the horses have a JOB ... We have a 34 year old sway back who without her job would be dead! ... Instead she is walking around the ring with under 100 pounds on her back and is ALIVE ..... show ring ... NO .... Jumping NO ... but she has a place and she is in it .... PRETTY horse ... depends on if someone takes the time to get to know her .... I don't care what people think .... and besides ... she pays for her own board!   Sway back and all!
