  1. While that seems pretty powerful, I would stay away from Sony in terms of audio.  Don't get me wrong, Sony has some excellent display technology, but in terms of audio, they really lack quality products.  I would drop the $1500-$2000 on a nice Klipsch or Polk Audio setup with a nice receiver from Yamaha, Denon, or Harman Kardon.

If you have the right sub, then you don't need two of them.

  2. Well - are the dual subs self-powered? If so - it could be decent.

I agree that Sony speakers tend to be lower accuracy - but you dont need highly accurate music speakers for home theater.  Lots of bass is nice for a HT system.

I also suspect the power output of 185 watts per channel is inflated.  Higher end $2,000 receivers tend to top out at 120 - 140 watts.  You have to look in the details like is the power rated at 'peek' or RMS, was it measured into a 8 ohm load or something smaller, is the power across all frequencies, etc.

But it looks like you can always upgrade the recevier later, add a separate sub or replace the 5 speakers so this system is decent IMHO.

  3. looks too much, too many

    good luck
