  1. Is your need an emotional, scholastic, professional, or legal one?

I can appreciate your "need" if you, say, live in London and your company is in Seville and you'd like to be more "hands on" with the everyday business. It helps to be there, that's for sure. (that's what I did!) I can also understand if you're moving to Spain to study at the university or if your parents are moving there and you have to go along.

But is it a good idea to move there permanently? Only you can answer that one. We can only give you some insight as to HOW it will be to live here but the experience varies with every individual. Many people find living here liberating and wonderful while others find it stressful and oppressing. (I'm with the former crowd)

Unless you're retired and/or have "other income", finding meaningful work with a livable wage in Spain will be your biggest difficulty - not to mention the language if you don't speak Spanish already.

Before moving to Spain about 3 years ago I'd visited Spain about 10 times in the previous 10 years.

I think that's the best start for you. Visit Spain first (if you haven't before) and spend a month or two here, make some Spanish friends, talk to Spaniards and people of your own nationality living and working in Spain to see if it's something you could deal with before buying your one-way plane ticket.

Best of luck! And if you DO choose to move to Spain permanently I hope it's the experience you'd expected.

    Saludos, MadridMan/BarcelonaMan @ you-know-where!

  2. You "NEED" to move there? to work, to study, to run away from justice?

Spain is in Europe, they speak spanish (and a little english and french). 45 million people live there. The biggest cities are Madrid (the capital - 4 million people) and Barcelona (3 million people).

As a country is as safe as anywhere in Europe, it has nice weather, nice food, nice people, etc.

I think it's a good idea to move there.

    Anythin else?

  3. Spain is an amazing place!  It's best to check it out for yourself though and see the life of an "extranjero" (foreigner) to see if it is right for you.  It's hard getting around in a foreign language and Spain doesn't particularly cater to non-Spanish speakers (do you speak Spanish) or care much for Americans (are you American?).  Also, unless you are an EU citizen it's hard to actually move there and get work.
