Question:

Has anyone realized this?

I just bought a bag of wasabi peas yesterday and I always loved the spicy tast. I grabbed about 5 or 6 wasabi peas and I bent over while eating them. All of a sudden the flavor of the wasabi went up my sinuses and it was the most intense pain I have EVER felt. I wasn't really crying but since the wasabi (which isn't that spicy) went into a place where it shouldn't have gone (straight up into my head) water actually squirted out of my eyes! It was a forceful gradual pain that lasted about 7 seconds. DO NOT TRY IT (well I keep on doing it for fun now)! I think that any wasabi product should have a warning on the label that says "do not turn head upside down while eating this product!!!". Has anyone had this happen to them?

  1. You should see this video of this one guy snorting pure wasabi. Google it. It's not pretty.

  2. I have when eating salsa. Bent down to tie my sons shoe and HELLO BILL...It was a pain so intense I could not believe it. I thought I was experiencing a migraine or some thing. After the pain was the aroma of the salsa I was eating.

I don't think they will be putting any warning labels soon. Not to many people do what we did often. There fore no need for extra money spending.

Hey do you think this will make our sinus tough???

  3. mm.....sounds like the McDonnell case: of this guy who place his hot cup in-between his legs while driving ????

mmm....common sense isn't it ,not to bend over while eating anything.... cos this action may cause your food to allocate to the wrong channel? Lucky for you that it is just the WASABI... if it was a piece of meat or something ... you may not be here writing this story ..

  4. Not exactly, not while my head was upside down, but I've had similar sensations caused by wasabi peas.  I can see how that would happen!  Have fun with 'em!!

  5. I have noticed when eating sushi, that if I put the wasabi on top, then turn the piece over and eat it upside down with the wasabi on my tongue, that it has the same slight burn on the tongue but does not overwhelm so much. Its when the wasabi is on top, that it goes right into nasal passages and sinuses. Unlike a hot chili, wasabi  burns more to nasal passages from the aroma than from touch to the tongue.

  6. yes i have experienced it countless of times

i was lying down when i ate the peas then suddenly I experienced what you just experienced when that happens I put my head under the pillow covering my whole head that helps me ease the pain
