Has anyone used ancestry co.UK?

if your not sure of a surname have you got to trawl through all the names even when your sure of names dates and everything you still cant find what your looking for what do you think of this website what is the best way to use it and has it ben helpful to you

Ancestry.co.uk  improves all the time and apart from the BMD indices for England and Wales it has all the censuses  for the UK currently published ( 1841,1851,1861,1871,1881, 1891& 1901 ) NOT for Ireland as these  were mostly destroyed and the the Scottish ones are transcripts . You can also check out the names on the telephone book listings which cover 100 years or thereabouts .If you have the dates you should locate the names as thed listings from 1837 are in alpohabetic order in quarterly volumes . If you find the correct entry you can order directly from gthye GRO in Southport It costs £7 per certificate .
