Have I damaged my motor?

A couple of weeks ago I drove about 70 miles on the motorway in 4th. gear at a high speed. I didn't realise I wasn't in 5th till the end of the motorway.

Could I have damaged the motor in any way?

  1. No. In most cars 5th gear is really an overdrive gear anyway. You can use it on the highway or not use it,,,,your choice. It keeps the car rolling along but has no power to speak of.

  2. not unless you over-revved the engine.but then it has a rev limiter to protect it so no you didnt damage it.

  3. how high were the RPM's... it should not be bad.  How does the car drive now? engine light on? grinds in transmission? does the car still act normal, like it did before?

  4.   As long as you didn't redline the tach it should be OK

  5. nah you're fine just try not to do it next time ;)

  6. If it's still running fine you did no harm whatsoever other than using more gas than you should have.
