Have any of you ladies ever been put on birth controll by your doctor for menstrual irregularities?? For about the last couple of years my periods have been very sparse, maybe one every couple of months, ifI'mm lucky, and really bad pms even if Idon'tt have a period. I also am having night sweats and the occasional hot flash. Please let me know I am desperate. I am 38 years old. Did the birth control pills help you? Thank you in advance. XOXO

  1. I've been on the pill most of my life to control menstrual problems.

Right now, I'm using the pill till my hysterectomy next month; I bleed ALL the time, and the doctors can't find any reason for it, so this is the next step for me.  I've lived my entire life this way.

At 38, you should ask your doctor to assess you for peri-menopause.  While it's uncommon to happen this early, it's not entirely unheard of either.  I started when I was 34, actually.

My doctor recommended taking 1200 mg of fish oil daily, taking in more calcium (especially milk in the evening to help with sleep), exercise more, she prescribed Ambien for the insomnia, I've recently started using Restasis for dry eye syndrome, I take a multivitamin, and I've found relief from an OTC herbal called Changes for Women: Night & Day Formula (Zand pharmaceuticals).

All of these things together have helped me. I don't have as many symptoms, but they're still there.
