  1. I stopped smoking!!!

    I smoked for over 10 years and finally, 2 years ago, I quit.  

    Yep, I am 2 years CLEAN.

    Within the first couple of months, I cheated 2x (when I had a really stressful situation happen).  But, since then, I have not smoked at all.

    It was extremely difficult.  I had to 1) not see my smoking friends for about 2 months.  2) limit my interaction with friends out in restaurants, even the non-smokers. 3) I started a blog and I wrote wrote wrote in it every time I wanted to smoke.  Instead of smoking, I wrote.  4) I started going to the gym every day. 5) I used the patch for a short time, but it only made me feel nervous all of the time. 6) I got a prescription for xanax from my doctor --- to help calm my nerves which was my trigger for smoking. 7) I drank tons of diet soda and chewed tons of gum.

    But, I'm smoke free now!!!


  2. yes i have quit smoking for a year now.

    i don't no how i managed to do it because every time i tried to quit before i used to start crying and stuff, but that day when i quit i was at my mates house who don't smoke and i was that occupied that i never had a cigarette all day and then at the end of the night i thought i might as well quit and i did. it was the right time for me.


  3. nicotine gets out of your system in days...  its the habit that hard to kick... the hand to mouth - buying the cigs -  the smoke break

    1st - avoid stores that sell cigarettes... if you dont have em you cant smoke them.  

    Find walking buddy to fill in the time for you usually smoke break... or some kind of other filler... and hang out with people who dont smoke for awhile until you get yourself cured of the addiction.

    you know what i did... i kept one cigarette.  just one. for months... because my biggest smoke time was on the way to and from work...  and i would just hold it.  never lit it.  Just held it in my fingers as a comfort...

  4. Yes cold turkey 29 years ago. Now I don't smoke anything that doesn't get me high!

  5. I quit cold turkey for 3 years. It was hard at first but got easier after a few weeks.

  6. i did it without any need for nicotine patches... just go cold turkey, and if you get past 3 days you should be sweet...

  7. Yes, I quit about three years ago, I had a very good reason met a fantastic young lady and decided I had to do something about my health.

    I went to see my GP and he put me on patches although after the first lot we decided to straight to last set, not bothering with the inbetweenies.

    Have never looked back although sometimes when I'm feeling stressed the urge attacks but I have never given in as I always think of of that beautiful young lady.

Yes about 18 months ago  Was pretty hard  /  I had smoked for 60 years.  Had to stop.  lungs were getting bad,,  Went to a new drug then just out,  Champix.    Not nicotine therapy like most  others,   Works on the receptors in brain that make you want to smoke... A 3 month course,  Available on prescription only in UK..   I took it for 2 months,  Was a bit hard at first  ,  but got over it,  Have not smoked one cigarette since and have no desire to. I am told it had a higher succeess rate than most other methods.  One slight drawback is you feel a bit queezy,nauseous for abot half an hour after taking them,  but a price well worth paying.. But big thing is  it  tends to  reduce the urge to smoke.

  12. I had an asthma attack that nearly did me in so I had good motivation. I used the patches and on the odd occasion I gave in and had a sneaky one I didn't feel the benefit cos I was already getting nicotine from the patches. It's over a year now. Good luck.

  13. After years of being a very heavy smoker, I stopped suddenly. I took it one day at a time, but for at least three months, I don't think I thought of anything other than cigarettes. Giving up heroin couldn't be harder.

    If you are trying to stop smoking I wish you all the luck in the world, and I hope it isn't as unpleasant for you as it was for me.

    They do say you have to stop at least twice before you make it. Good luck.

  14. you have chosen to quit so make a plan and stick to it,,,i think its easier than we think and our mind is programed once addicted to nicotine to think we cant,,idid it once and started again ,,but in a few weeks my date will have arrived to try again,,get the book by allen carr,,trust me ok..i got best answer on this last month,,good luck ok,,you will be smoke Free soon.

  15. I have been trying for the past 2 years. You need ALOT of will power for it. For me if i dont have one i seem to get in a groggy mood with everyone. Maybe if you start smoking less and less and then eventually come off them thats what im going to do.  

  16. Yes I have quit,since 1995, first I wanted to quit before I bought the patches then  3 weeks later I was done .QC was what  I used.I have had a few friends die from cancer ,emphysema, So I chose to quit.

  17. I quite cold turkey 4 years ago.

    I was more of a social smoker so it may having been easier, but I still crave it sometimes. Sometimes I will have dreams about smoking and i'll wake up in the morning and my chest actually hurts like I had had a smoke.

    You literaly have to take it one day at a time

  19. It will be 2 years next month for me.

    I used patches for the first week but I am allergic to them so I went on to gum (which was horrible) and then lozenges (which were marginally better).  I used them sparingly for the first month then went cold turkey.

    54 years old and smoked since I was 14.  If I can do

    it...anyone can!

    As regards ease/difficulty...Mark Twain said giving up was easy...he'd done it a thousand times!

  20. Yes. I used behavior modification techniques. It was pretty hard but well worth it.
