  1. I lived there many years ago. The weather in June is usually nice; even quite far north, most, if not all, of the snow will have melted, and you can travel by boat between the towns. Which is also the way I'd love to see Greenland today if I could afford it :-)

A cruise along the coast would let you see a good part of the country. Otherwise, my dad - who's travelled all over Greenland - said that he thought the most beautiful places were around Manitsoq and down south around Qaqortoq or Narsaq. It is also in the south you can find remnants of the Norse settlements.

Disco bay is a good place for watching whales and to visit a glacier (Ilulissat). There's also good fishing - I remember catching very good-sized halibuts for example :-)

And going in June, you would of course be coming at the perfect time to see the midnight sun, which you can also do around Disco bay.

The weather in Greenland, as you can probably imagine in a country that stretches a couple thousand kilometres from north to south, varies quite a bit.

But you can take a look at the following link and see average climate data for various places in Greenland. As you can see, even in summer the average temperatures are quite low, also in the south.

So definitely bring clothes that would be suitable for somewhat chilly weather. Although, if the sun is shining, a t-shirt can be enough on warm days - I guess the ever popular advice will once again be layers :-) Remember especially to bring good boots or shoes, even if you don't plan to go hiking much that will be an advantage in many places. And you'd miss a lot of the beauty of Greenland if you don't go hiking just a little bit. Just a few hundred meters from the towns it's all quiet and serene.

You can read more about clothing, food etc. on these websites:

Oh, and I happened to find this link too, from the New York Times about Greenland as a tourist spot:

    Have a wonderful vacation :-)

  2. You could always do a cruise and Visit the Disko Bay or travel to south or east greenland. You can do shark fishing, view the northern lights, whale watching & icebergs. I have never been there but I work for a company that does tours to Greenland, you could always contact one of our Greenland agents who have been their many times.

  3. I have never been, but I was talking to someone at the NTA convention about Greenland and they said that 2009 is supposed to be the best year to view the northern lights.

I know that June is a bit before then but I'm assuming that means they are getting more intense.
