Have you ever seen?

Have you ever seen those 1'' by 1'' Tan see-through Glass shield-like stand-alone chest-level plates that sometimes surround an important speakers podium. What are they for?

They are teleprompters.  The text of the speech is shown to the speaker.  However, looking from teh back side they are almost transparent.

They are where the text of the speech is projected on to from the floor. It is only visible to the speaker & looks as though he has memorised it all. There is one either side so he can look around & still read the speech. It looks as though he is looking at the audience but he is reading off the glass. ♥
