My son is 3 weeks old, I was induced...fully dialted and pushed for 3 hours and ended up having a c-section. Should I wait for my 6 week check up before having s*x with my husband?? Also, what forms of birt control did you use while nursing??

  1. I would wait to get the OK. . .just to be safe.  Congrats to you because I was not even thinking about s*x with my husband until 3 months after having my 1st and 7 wks until after having my 2nd.  I tried the pill they recommend while breast feeding, but found that my milk supply decreased.  I have stopped taking them and we just use condoms and will continue until he gets the big "V" this Friday.

  2. I never waited the whole time, even after my first when I had stitches.  I waited for the stitches to heal, and when I felt ready.  you are very fertile right now, so if you don't want Irish twins I'd be careful. You are also at risk for infection so a condom is a good idea either way.

The reason they say 6 weeks is because when the placenta rips off the uterine wall it obviously leaves a wound.  The lochia (discharge) is what is expelled while that wound is healing.  The more clear it gets and less you have means its almost healed (it starts blood red).  When that slows to almost a stop it is usually a good sign that you can safely have s*x again.  The 6 week rule is a generalization.  They just assume we are too stupid to read our own bodies.

  3. Yes I would wait! I have 3 weeks and 6 days until my doctors appointment, seriously counting the days...

I had my daughter 2 weeks ago and she only weighed 2lbs and I didn't have any stitches or anything, I'm still going to wait.

  4. Its best to wait the 6 weeks..and if you don't then you may cause more tears or take longer to heal. Be prepared for it to hurt even after the 6 weeks..

  5. Its all about how good you feel, if you feel ready, and if you do be gentle with yourself.  If it doesn't feel right, stop and give yourself a few more days.  I think that if your bleeding has stopped it should be okay.  Birth control I used.....the pull out method, then he got a vasectomy.

  6. s*x too early after a vaginal birth can cause air bubbles to be 'pumped' up into your body and they can actually be fatal.

Since you had a C-section, there is less danger of that but definitely danger of your uterine and stomach muscles contracting during s*x and rupturing at the incision sites.  please wait for your Doctor's ok no matter how ready you feel.  Remember it is major surgery and recovery will be different.

  7. I would most def. wait 6 weeks. I waited 6 weeks to the day! while its hard, lol, I am glad I did =)  There are many different types of birth control pills for nursing mothers.  Your doctor will show you a list of them (mine did anyway) and let you choose which one is best for you =)

    congrats!
