Question:

Having teeth removed?

I'm on the waiting list and it shouldn't be long before I get a brace. I have no idea if my teeth are overcrowded but have a feeling that they are and am really scared about getting teeth removed if I have to.

Last time I went the dentist, my brother [who was 16] had his teeth removed while I was watching and I fainted [which sounds really pathetic, LMAO] but now I'm really scared but I'm not sure what of? The needle, having the tooth pulled, the pain? and I'm not even sure if I'm getting a tooth removed. Help!

  1. I have no idea if you are going to get your teeth pulled or not, but just follow the instructions that the doctor gives you.  Only eat soft foods for the first week or so, and don't drink carbonated drinks for a week or so either.  (soda and stuff like that)  When you get your teeth pulled, they will numb your mouth very well.  The worst part of it is the numbing shot.  I didn't know that they actually pulled my two teeth until they showed them to me.  When I was 7 years old, I got 2 of my baby teeth pulled, and they gave me some magazines (Highlights I think) to look at, so I was distracted.  So, take some magazines, or some books.  Most dentists don't allow i-pods/mp3 players because you might not hear instructions.

Also, you sometimes get the option to be awake for the procedure or to be put asleep.

  2. You need to talk with the dentist and tell them what you just told us. The dentist will tell you what you need to do and hopefully he will put your mind at ease. If you have to write everything down on a piece of paper and take it with you to help remind you of the questions and comments you need to talk over with him. Remember he works for you and not the other way around.

  3. I had 4 teeth removed before my braces.  Two at a time.  1: take the oxigen if they offer it, 2: get put to sleep and don't fight it-breath deep.  The next thing you know you wake up and it's over.

If I remember right the top 2 were a breeze.  I was eating that evening.  The lower jaw teeth-not so good.  My jaws swelled up and I couldn't eat anything but soup for several days.  Good luck.  I don't like being put to sleep, but to remove teeth I say go to sleep.

  4. Usually you have an option to get put to sleep. Theres no needle, wont have to be awake for the procedure and you wont feel it. Thats what I would chose! Theres no way I would only get novicane!

  5. dont worry, getting teeth pulled usually doesnt hurt very much. you might feel slight pressure when they pull, but it isnt that bad.

  6. they gave me like 8 shots and pulled it...it didnt hurt at all and my mouth was numb for like 18 hrs...haha

  7. first of all you need to calm down and try not to think about getting any of your teeth removed. if you did need any teeth removed they would have told you already and would have had it removed already. but I'm sure you have enough room in your mouth right now and not need to have any teeth removed.

if you do need any teeth removed, try not to think about it too much but I'm sure if you let them know how you feel they will give you some laughing gas to help ease your anxiety.

hope everything works out for you
