  1. Basically, wherever you eat, you're going to need to go with basic tools.  You can eat out most places if you go knowing what type of foods to order.

FIST RULE: Definitely stay away from cheesey or deep-fried foods.  TIP: If chicken is served "crispy" or "fried", you can normally ask for it grilled as a substitute.

Also, do not be fooled by salads!  Dressings, bacon, and cheese add a lot of calories.  For example, at Costco's food court, the single item with the most calories is the caesar salad with over 1000 calories.  Surprising when next to pizza, hot dogs, and chicken bakes.

Some sit-down restaurants have a lite or guilt-free section.  Those are great places to look.

Basically, you want a meal with a lot fruits and vegetables with lean meats and whole grains.  Be wary of sauces (although some can be lean), butter, cheese, and simple carbohydrates (like sugar and white breads).  If you feel like you meal is not too flavorful, add salt, pepper, other spices, or mustard (if fitting to the meal).

Takeout options: I know it isn't exactly ideal, but Subway is awesome for a quick meal.

really great tool! check out: http://www.healthydiningfinder.com/site/ It gives pointers on what to order and how many calories the meals contain.  That way, you can learn to spot fatty things on a menu.

  2. Japanese is the best - just don't get the tempura. Sushi, teriyaki dishes, miso soup, udon noodles - these are very diet friendly. Chinese is much greasier than Japanese. Indian is fine. Italian tends to be rich in carbs. Pub food doesn't sound too promising, though it depends on the menu. If you get a salad, that's fine (just ask for dressing on the side). Mexican is OK but can be very cheesy and oily, so it depends on where you order. The best thing is to learn what the best options on the menu of your favorite places are. Have you ever seen Allure's total makeover? They give tips on how to eat out at restaurants that might be helpful to you....

Remember how to ask how things are cooked, and ask for fish and meat dishes to be cooked without butter, things like that. Avoid fatty meats like pork and beef. At Italian restaurants, ask them not to bring the bread. Look for dishes that are mostly protein and veggies, with a small helping of carbs (like salmon with veggies and mashed potatoes). And remember that it's better to allow yourself one indulgence at a restaurant or get the thing that you really want than eat a half salad and binge later.

  3. for italian it should be something like pasta with a tomato sauce

avoid fried food, creamy sauce, pizza etc..

try to have fish which is the healthiest option and vegetables

puddings would be sorbet and fruit

  5. What's pub? Out of the other options I would guess that Indian is the healthiest

  6. Chantelle is exactly correct!  I have the book and it is WONDERFUL!!!! It gives you the best choice for the lowest calories and fat when eating out and when going to the grocery store!  And you can get it for around $13.00 with shipping from amazon.
