Do you think helicopter training is a career choice? I've always wanted to learn to fly one, but I don't really want that as a career

  1. it can be a good career choice and also makes a great hobby

  2. Unless you have a lot of money to buy your own chopper or lease one you'll probably want to make a career of it

  3. Helicopter flying is not always a career choice.  Although I have been a professional pilot for a few years, my love of flying was nurtured as a private pilot.  Getting a private helicopter license is an extremely rewarding experience.  Your training would allow you to legally take friends and family on rides in a helicopter.  The FAA will require you pass written, oral and practical exams.  The training will take a few months to a year, depending on your study habits.  Be aware that the cost of flying helicopters is more expensive than flying small fixed wing aircraft, but i think much more fun!!!  Make sure you find a reputable flight school in your area and take an introductory flight.  Most of the time you'll get to take the controls during that flight to see if its for you.  After that you will have to get a medical and start your adventure.  Good Luck, and......Tailwinds!!!
